2013 Harley CVO range

The Custom Vehicle Operations division of Harley-Davidson has unveiled two new motorcycles for 2013.

First up is the CVO Breakout. Derived from the Softail family, it follows the established CVO recipe of combining special paint finishes with various premium components.

As with all 2013 CVO bikes, power comes from the 110 cubic inch (1,803 cc) Screamin’ Eagle V-twin. In the Breakout it develops 150 Nm (110 lb/ft) of torque under European test standards, or a slightly higher 151 Nm (112 lb/ft) according to the SAE J1349 measure.

Given such a vigorous output, Harley-Davidson has decided to fit the Assist and Slip Clutch Pack as standard. The benefit of this is reduced drivetrain loading on downshifts, which in turn prolongs clutch life.

The look of the CVO Breakout is very stripped-back, with a mini headlight nacelle, internally-wired handlebars, a compact instrument housing and chopped fenders.

Buyers will be able to choose from Black Diamond / Molten Silver, Hard Candy Gold Dust / Liquid Sun or Crimson Red Sunglo / Scarlet Lace colour schemes, all of which are complemented by polished chrome ‘Turbine’ wheels and a leather seat that features an embossed gator hide pattern.

In common with all 2013 CVO machines, the Breakout’s standard specification includes anti-lock brakes, a security system, cruise control and a CVO-branded motorcycle cover.

Production is set to be limited to around 1,900 units worldwide. In the UK the CVO Breakout costs £21,495, while in the US the price tag is $26,499.

The other new arrival is the CVO Road King.

Along with the Crushed Sapphire or Burgundy Blaze paintwork, this bike’s most recognisable feature is likely to be the innovative new ‘Vented Wind Splitter’ windscreen. Designed to reduce buffeting, it is both adjustable and removable.

The CVO Road King also comes with mirror chrome ‘Agitator’ wheels, Slipstream Collection hand and foot controls, a removable pillion seat unit and an audio system. This comprises a 200-watt amplifier, four speakers and an interface module for an 8GB iPod that’s linked to handlebar-mounted controls.

In the US, the 2013 CVO Road King is priced at $29,999, or $30,999 for the special 110th Anniversary Edition that will be available in limited quantities. For the UK, those amounts are £25,295 and £26,295 respectively.

While the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide and CVO Road Glide Custom remain for 2013, the CVO Softail Convertible and CVO Street Glide have been discontinued, thereby keeping the Custom Vehicle Operations line-up to just four models.
