Chevy Trax European specs
It looks like the Vauxhall / Opel Mokka compact SUV is about to face some strong competition in the shape of the new, almost identical Trax from sister brand Chevrolet.
According to preliminary specifications just released, the European-spec Trax is virtually the same size and it’ll come with the same engine line-up.
That means buyers are going to have a choice of a 113 bhp (85 kW / 115 PS) 1.6 litre petrol, a 138 bhp (103 kW / 140 PS) 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol or a 128 bhp (96 kW / 130 PS) 1.7 litre turbo diesel. The two more powerful engines will be available with all-wheel drive, as well as an automatic transmission option.
On the inside, Chevrolet says the cabin will offer sophistication, while the more upmarket variants will feature the MyLink system that integrates smartphone content - including navigation - and displays it on a seven-inch touch screen. So, it doesn’t appear that the Trax will be the poor relation of the Mokka when it comes to equipment levels.
All of which leaves two differentiating factors: styling and price.
Whether the chunkiness of the Trax or the more curvy form of the Mokka appeals more is a matter of taste. What will be less subjective is the cost and, although Chevrolet has yet to make any announcement, there is a strong possibility that the Trax could be significantly cheaper.
