Nissan Serena S-Hybrid

Nissan has launched a hybrid version of its Japan-only Serena minivan.

Remarkably, an extra battery and motor have been squeezed into the existing engine bay, meaning that cabin space is unaffected. The result is a claimed best-in-class fuel economy figure of 42.9 mpg (6.6 l/100km / 15.2 km/l) while running in two-wheel drive mode. That doesn’t seem to be a particularly impressive figure, but it has been calculated according to the JC08 test which is considered to be more demanding than previous assessments.

The new variant also gets some unique cosmetic features, including LED rear lights and blue headlight inner lenses. Prices for the Serena S-Hybrid range from ¥2,384,550 to ¥2,799,300, including consumption tax.
