Even though there are still ten months to wait until the 2014 Dakar Rally, organisers have already announced its itinerary.
For the sixth successive year the event is going to be based in South America. Beginning in Rosario, Argentina on the 5th of January, the route will briefly enter Bolivia before it eventually finishes in Valparaiso, Chile on the 18th of January. The schedule is set to feature longer special stages as well as several gruelling marathon stages.
Entries for the rally open on the 15th of May. In a new departure, ten places will be reserved for novice competitors who have participated in rounds of the Dakar Challenge. That series runs from May to October and includes the Tecate Score Baja 500 (Mexico), Desafio Ruta 40 (Argentina), Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race (Botswana), Reno 500 (USA), Australasian Safari (Australia) and Desafio Inca (Peru).
