Škoda Rapid Spaceback unveiled

Škoda has released the first images of its Rapid Spaceback ahead of a public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.

Like the regular Rapid, the Spaceback is a five-door hatchback that sits on a 2,602 mm (8’ 6”) wheelbase. However, Škoda reckons the new arrival has a more sporty appearance thanks to its shortened tail and three side windows.

That impression might be reinforced by the optional full-length tinted glass roof and deeper tailgate window, but both body styles still seem very similar.

On the inside things are essentially the same too. The reprofiled roof does mean there’s a tad more rear headroom, but boot space (with the rear seats up) is reduced from the ordinary Rapid’s 550 litres to 415 litres in the Spaceback.

In Europe, the Rapid Spaceback is due to go on sale this coming October. Customers will have a choice of six engines, including the recently launched 88 bhp (66 kW / 90 PS) 1.6 litre turbodiesel.

Prices have yet to be announced.

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
