2014 BMW 4 Series Convertible unveiled

Following the launch of its 4 Series Coupé earlier this year, BMW has now revealed the Convertible version.

A replacement for the 3 Series drop-top, the new arrival features a fully-lined, three-piece metal folding roof that’s claimed to offer better sound insulation compared to its predecessor. Raising or lowering takes 20 seconds, and can be done at speeds of up to 8 mph (12 km/h).

In the UK, buyers will have a choice of SE, Sport, Modern, Luxury or M Sport trim grades. All come with leather upholstery, heated electric front seats, parking sensors front and rear, xenon headlights and Bluetooth connectivity as standard.

The initial engine line-up is going to consist of a 181 bhp (135 kW / 184 PS) 2.0 litre diesel (badged 420d), a 241 bhp (180 kW / 245 PS) 2.0 litre petrol (named 428i despite its displacement) and a 301 bhp (225 kW / 306 PS) six-cylinder 3.0 litre petrol (435i). Their power is delivered to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, although an eight-speed automatic transmission is on the options list.

BMW 4 Series Convertible prices start at £36,675 for the 420d SE.
