2014 MiTo and Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde

Alfa Romeo is honouring its sporting heritage by launching high performance Quadrifoglio Verde versions of the MiTo and Giulietta.

For the MiTo, power is provided by a 1.4 litre MultiAir turbocharged petrol engine that produces 167 bhp (125 kW / 170 PS) with 230 Nm (170 lb/ft) of torque. Coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox, it allows the supermini to accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 136 mph (219 km/h).

By comparison the Fiesta ST takes 6.9 seconds to achieve the same benchmark sprint while its top speed is virtually identical. So the Alfa Romeo seems a tad slower, but it is more efficient. 52.3 mpg (5.4 l/100km) and 124 g/km of carbon dioxide emissions on the combined cycle comfortably better the Ford’s equivalent figures of 47.9 mpg (5.9 l/100km) and 138 g/km.

The MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde is distinguished by its 17” alloy wheels, red brake calipers, redesigned front bumper, rear spoiler and a special burnished finish for various bodywork elements. On the inside, the specification includes black upholstery, revised instruments, the Uconnect touchscreen-based infotainment system and faux carbon fibre trim.

The Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde takes the 1,750 cc direct-injection turbo motor and TCT six-speed dual-clutch transmission from the 4C roadster.

That package develops 236 bhp (176 kW / 240 PS) and 340 Nm (250 lb/ft), which is sufficient for a 0-62 mph time of 6.6 seconds and a top speed of over 149 mph (240 km/h). Those stats would indicate the Giulietta’s pace is on a par with the Golf GTI, despite the Volkswagen having a 19 bhp (14 kW / 20 PS) deficit versus its new Italian rival.

To complement its powertrain, the Quadrifoglio Verde’s interior features sports front seats with integrated headrests, leather and Alcantara upholstery, aluminium pedals and a unique steering wheel. Also fitted are an upgraded Brembo braking system, larger exhausts, recalibrated suspension, rear privacy glass and extended side skirts.

The 2014 MiTo and Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde models are due to make their public debuts at next month’s Geneva International Motor Show. Sales will then begin in May.
