2015 Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake unveiled

Jaguar isn’t doing much wrong at the moment and the new XFR-S Sportbrake looks set to continue the trend.

Like the existing XFR-S saloon, the estate version is equipped with a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 engine that produces 542 bhp (405 kW / 550 PS) with 680 Nm (502 lb/ft) of peak torque.

Coupled to an eight-speed ‘Quickshift’ automatic transmission, those outputs are enough to propel the rear-wheel drive Jaguar from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.8 seconds. Its top speed meanwhile is electronically limited to 186 mph (300 km/h).

Chassis upgrades specific to the high-performance Sportbrake include different anti-roll bars, a recalibrated active electronic differential and modifications to the rear suspension, subframe and axle. The front suspension and steering set-ups mimic the XFR-S saloon’s.

Even in standard form the XF Sportbrake is arguably the most handsome mid-size estate car currently available. The looks of the R-S model are further enhanced by the addition of a front splitter, redesigned bumpers, extended side sills, a tailgate spoiler and 20” six-spoke ‘Varuna’ forged alloy wheels. It’s very much a case of form following function though, as the visual tweaks have been implemented mainly to reduce aerodynamic lift and provide enhanced cooling.

The XFR-S Sportbrake can be ordered from April onwards. In the UK, its price has been set at £82,495.
