The quirky Adam Rocks
There are probably many prospective city car buyers who’d like urban-proof protective body cladding, while others might fancy a full-length electric folding canvas roof. Vauxhall / Opel must believe that enough people want both together, because they feature on the new Adam Rocks trim grade.
Due to make its first appearance at next month’s Geneva International Motor Show, the Rocks also has a 15 mm (0.6”) ride height increase, skid plates front and rear, unique alloy wheels, recalibrated steering and modified suspension.
The folding roof design brings most of the benefits of a full convertible without affecting interior space or body rigidity. Available in three colours, its three-ply construction includes a neoprene layer to ensure protection against the elements.
In addition to the usual 1.2 and 1.4 litre four-cylinder petrol engines, the Rocks is being offered with a new 1.0 litre Ecotec turbocharged three-cylinder unit. With outputs of either 88 bhp (66 kW / 90 PS) or 113 bhp (85 kW / 115 PS), it comes connected to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The idiosyncratic Adam Rocks has a certain appeal, mainly because it dares to be different. However, Vauxhall / Opel could probably generate a few extra sales by adding that opening roof to a ‘normal’ Adam as well.
Production is due to begin in August, with the first customer deliveries beginning soon after. Prices will be confirmed nearer to the launch date.
