Volkswagen Multivan Alltrack concept

Although rumours suggest that an all-new Transporter van is coming next year, Volkswagen has just created a concept version based on the current T5.

The Multivan Alltrack is a multi-purpose vehicle with moderate off-road aspirations. Taking a Transporter equipped with a 177 bhp (132 kW / 180 PS) 2.0 litre turbodiesel engine and 4Motion all-wheel drive as a starting point, it adds some visual tweaks and an adaptable interior.

Grey extensions for the bumpers, wheel arches and side sills are the most noticeable styling changes. They’re combined with 19” high-gloss alloy wheels, underbody protection plates and some vulnerable-looking LED daytime running lights to give an individual look.

On the inside, a genuine wood floor incorporates a built-in track which allows the individual rear seats to be slid fore and aft. Poltrona Frau grey-blue leather upholstery lends an air of luxury, while entertainment is provided by an upgraded audio system.

Also included is a removable kitchen unit. Featuring a cool box, gas cooker, sink and water tank, it can be placed longitudinally behind the driver’s seat or across the van’s width.

Despite the concept title, the Multivan Alltrack appears to be almost showroom-ready. On that basis a future production model won’t be a surprise.
