2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible unveiled

Chevrolet has announced the arrival of its most powerful drop-top ever, the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible.

Like the coupé version, power is provided by a supercharged 6.2 litre LT4 V8 engine. It’s expected to produce at least 625 bhp (466 kW / 633 PS) with 861 Nm (635 lb/ft) of torque and deliver a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of less than 3.5 seconds. Buyers will be able to specify either a seven-speed manual gearbox or the new 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission.

The motor sits in a rigid, light hydroformed aluminium frame structure that has required no extra reinforcement despite the lack of a fixed roof. As a result there’s virtually no weight penalty and the suspension set-up isn’t compromised.

Indeed, the availability of the optional Z07 Performance Package is a sign of Chevrolet’s confidence in the Z06 Convertible’s bodyshell. It comprises Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, additional front splitter winglets and an adjustable centre section on the rear spoiler.

Standard Z06 features include widened wheel arches, lightweight alloy wheels, modified grilles to provide additional engine and brake cooling, a larger bonnet vent and a unique rear fascia design that moves the taillights three inches further apart.

Also part of the specification is the Magnetic Selective Ride Control adjustable damper system, a variable-rate electronic limited slip differential, launch control and multi-mode traction control.

Pricing for the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible has yet to be confirmed.
