Bentley Mulsanne Hybrid Concept
This month’s Beijing Motor Show will see Bentley unveil the Mulsanne-based Hybrid Concept.
Developing a plug-in hybrid powertrain makes a lot of sense for the brand. For starters, the technology is going to add more power, improve fuel economy and lower emissions. It also means the diesel route to greater efficiency can be avoided, plus of course the virtually silent electric component will suit Bentley perfectly.
Details of the hybrid set-up have yet to be revealed, but the firm reckons it should increase output by up to 25% while reducing carbon dioxide levels by around 70%. The electric-only mode range is expected to be at least 30 miles (50 kilometres).
There’s going to be quite a wait for a production hybrid Bentley, though. The system is due to debut in the marque’s new SUV, which doesn’t arrive until 2017.
