2015 Chevrolet Silverado ready for police duty

Law enforcement agencies across North America are being offered their own version of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pick-up.

Called the Special Service Vehicle, it’s based on the Crew Cab model and comes in either 1WT or 1LS guises. Users get to choose between a 6’6” or 5’8” cargo box, while power is provided by the 355 bhp (265 kW / 360 PS) 5.3 litre EcoTec3 V8 engine which can be paired with either rear- or four-wheel drive.

To help cope with the demands of police work the Silverado SSV gains an auxiliary battery as well as a high-output alternator. Furthermore, the cab features a 110 volt power outlet and the modified centre console has space for four extra switches.

Numerous specialist options are available for the Silverado SSV too. Among them are a vinyl-covered rear seat, additional wiring for warning lights and sirens, pillar-mounted spotlights and a rear-view camera.

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
