Caterham Seven Kamui Kobayashi edition

Kamui Kobayashi is Japanese and he drives for the Caterham F1 Team. So the creation of a Caterham Seven Kamui Kobayashi limited edition exclusively for Japan seems like a logical move.

Based on the existing Seven 250 R that’s powered by a 1.6 litre Ford Sigma engine, this special version has gloss black paintwork with matt black stripes. Colour contrast is provided by the carbon fibre front wings, rear wing protectors and dashboard, all of which have a green lacquer finish.

It’s intended purely for solo use as there’s just one seat, the roll bar only protects the driver and an aluminium tonneau cover prevents any passengers being carried. Among the other touches are unique instruments, a green anodised gear knob and a set of redesigned 13” black wheels.

Completing the transformation is a ‘10’ nose badge that denotes Kobayashi’s Formula One race number. Coincidentally it’s also the build volume for his eponymous Seven, which has been priced at ¥6,000,000.

Kobayashi commented: “For me, the Caterham Seven is a pure car; when you drive a Seven it feels like you are driving, not like the car is driving you. In my Caterham F1 car, I have electronics that control everything but to drive the Seven is to truly understand the car and to truly understand the enjoyment of driving. I hope my styling of the Seven adds something special to a car that is already awesome to drive.”

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
