2015 Honda CRF450R unveiled

Honda’s 2015 CRF450R motocross bike takes this year’s model and adds a series of small improvements.

The updates focus mainly on the 449 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. Thanks to a revised four-valve cylinder head, altered fuel injection settings and a redesigned exhaust, output is up slightly to 53.0 bhp (39.5 kW / 53.7 PS). Peak torque meanwhile is 48.0 Nm (35.4 lb/ft) at 7,000 rpm.

A new innovation is the mode selection button, which allows the rider to choose from three ECU maps to deliver a normal, smooth or aggressive throttle response. So it should help take advantage of that extra power, whatever the track conditions.

Although the aluminium twin-tube frame and chassis components are mostly carried over, a second-generation KYB Pneumatic Spring Fork is fitted that’s lighter and has less internal friction compared to its predecessor. Furthermore, the front brake disc has grown in diameter from 240 mm to 260 mm and the aluminium wheels are now shod with Dunlop MX52F/MX52 tyres.

To finish things off the 2015 CRF450R comes with updated body graphics. Honda has yet to confirm a price.
