2015 Volkswagen Polo R WRC revealed

Ahead of its debut on the Monte Carlo Rally later this month, Volkswagen Motorsport has unveiled the revised Polo R WRC that will compete in the 2015 World Rally Championship.

Although a refreshed livery and a redesigned rear wing are the most visible signs of an update, engineers also re-evaluated many other components in order to enhance the title-winning car’s performance and reliability.

As a result, power from the turbocharged 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine has been increased to 313 bhp (234 kW / 318 PS). Furthermore, the hydraulically-controlled six-speed sequential transmission which delivers that output to all four wheels is now operated via steering wheel-mounted paddles, rather than a gearstick.

With a minimum weight of 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs), the 2015 Polo R WRC can sprint from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) in around 3.9 seconds before going on to a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h).

The team’s three driver and co-driver crews - Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia, Jari-Matti Latvala / Miikka Anttila and Andreas Mikkelsen / Ola Fløene - remain as they were at the end of last season.
