2016 Indian Chief Dark Horse launched

Matte black paintwork and an almost complete lack of chrome give the Indian Chief Dark Horse a distinctly sinister look. The new cruiser also features cast wheels, unique tank graphics, a single vinyl-covered seat and blacked-out components.

It's based on the Chief Classic, and so shares that motorcycle's cast aluminium frame and Thunder Stroke 111 cubic inch (1,811 cc) V-twin engine. However, weight is down by 13 kg (27 lbs) because items such as the driving lights, oil cooler and analogue fuel gauge have all been removed.

Anti-lock brakes, cruise control and keyless start do remain on the standard equipment list, though. Furthermore, buyers will be able to choose from a broad range of accessories, even if adding extra kit seems to go against the stripped-back ethos.

In the United States, the Chief Dark Horse has a starting price of $16,999 (plus freight and set-up fees). That's $2,000 cheaper than a Chief Classic.

$16,999 equates to around £11,000 at current exchange rates. Unfortunately (and rather unfairly) such a calculation means nothing, as in the UK the Chief Dark Horse costs from £16,499.
