Qoros 2 SUV PHEV Concept unveiled

Qoros says the 2 Concept offers “a look into the possibilities for the brand’s future”. Revealed at the Auto Shanghai motor show, it's a B-segment SUV that would primarily target younger buyers.

Distinctive styling cues include bold vertical light clusters, a high waistline, prominent wheel arch bulges and short overhangs. The interior meanwhile is intended to be spacious, modern and minimalist.

A plug-in hybrid system comprises two electric motors that power the rear wheels, plus a small-capacity turbocharged petrol engine which sends its output to the front axle. Those elements can be run together or in isolation depending on the driving mode selected.

Built into the floorpan is an ultra-high density battery pack. Instead of using a traditional cable for recharging, Qoros has devised a novel aircraft-inspired retractable probe that's designed to work with special receiver sockets. The concept's under-body contactless inductive charging plate seems like a more realistic proposition, though.

The Alfa Romeo MiTo supermini is now available with the innovative two-cylinder TwinAir petrol engine. Although its capacity is only 875 cc, a turbocharger and the MultiAir electro-hydraulic valve control system mean it produces a respectable 83 bhp (62 kW / 85 PS) and 145 Nm (103 lb/ft) of torque. Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
