Opel creates the Vivaro Surf Concept
Despite appearances, the Vivaro Surf Concept isn’t a camper van. Instead, it’s a modified version of the CrewCab model that’s intended for leisure use.
Up to six seats are retained and there’s a bulkhead to divide the passenger and cargo areas. The latter space boasts built-in blue lighting and floor-mounted rails which enable a full-width storage box to be concealed beneath the second row of seats.
The Irmscher Tourer Pack, comprising part-leather upholstery and velour floor mats, provides a hint of luxury for the interior. In fact equipment levels are very generous, as automatic lights and wipers, heated front seats, a rear-view parking camera and a touchscreen-controlled infotainment system are all fitted.
As well as a roof-rack for carrying surfboards, the exterior features a two-tone paintjob, body-side graphics and five-spoke Irmscher alloy wheels.
Uniquely, air suspension on the rear axle and shortened springs are part of the specification too. Together they reduce the van’s overall height to 1.90 metres (6’ 3”), making most multi-storey car parks accessible.
Power comes from a 1.6 litre bi-turbo diesel engine that produces 138 bhp (103 kW / 140 PS) with 340 Nm (250 lb/ft) of peak torque.
Opel says the Vivaro Surf Concept could become a limited edition production model. Doubtless a decision is going to be influenced by public reaction at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, where it’ll debut later this month.
