Porsche’s 2016 911 Carrera is turbocharged
From December, the 911 Turbo won't be the only 911 turbo. That's because the Carrera models are getting a new 3.0 litre, six-cylinder, twin-turbo engine which delivers more power and better efficiency.
All versions receive an extra 19 bhp (14 kW / 20 PS) and, as before, there's a choice of seven-speed manual and PDK dual-clutch transmissions.
Porsche Active Suspension Management is fitted as standard. As well as electronically adjusting the upgraded dampers, it lowers the 911's ride height by 10 mm (0.4”). Furthermore, two unrelated chassis enhancements make their options list débuts. A front axle lift mechanism helps to negotiate bumper-scraping obstacles, while rear-axle steering – only available for the Carrera S – sharpens the handling.
Complementing those technical improvements are a few subtle cosmetic changes. The rear lid is the most obvious redesigned component, but the door handles, headlamps, rear light clusters and wheels have been altered too.
Inside, the Porsche Communication Management infotainment system is now part of the Carrera's specification. Based around a 7” touchscreen with voice control, its features include a DAB radio, navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot and Connect Plus internet access. iPhone integration is possible via Apple CarPlay, but curiously Android Auto isn't supported.
