Lexus RC F GT3 racing plans confirmed

Eighteen months after it was first unveiled as a concept, Lexus has announced that the new RC F GT3 is going to compete for the first time in 2016.

The programme – which is being run under the F Performance Racing banner – will see a single car entered in an as yet unnamed sports car series in the United States. Paul Gentilozzi is in charge of the team, while Scott Pruett has been recruited as the RC F's driver.

2016 is set to be very much a development year, with limited race appearances planned. The intention is then to mount a full multi-car effort in 2017 and 2018.

Toyota Technocraft has been responsible for preparing the GT3-specification RC F. Its tuned 5.0 litre V8 engine delivers over 500 horsepower (around 375 kW) via a six-speed sequential transmission. Just as importantly, that output is combined with a reduced curb weight of only 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs).
