Fiat Ducato 4x4 Expedition 2017 unveiled
Fiat has created another go-anywhere camper van concept. The Ducato 4x4 Expedition 2017 Show Vehicle – which is being exhibited at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon – differs from its 2015 predecessor in one important respect.
Whereas the older conversion used a retrofitted four-wheel drive system from supplier Dangel, the new van is based on the recently-launched (and factory-built) Ducato 4x4 variant. This features two transfer cases and an automatic central viscous coupling that constantly reallocates torque between the front and rear axles to optimise traction.
The 4x4 line-up includes panel vans and chassis-cabs, thereby providing builders of adventure vehicles with plenty of scope. However, Ducato all-terrain models are only available in left-hand drive form, so their appeal in the UK is likely to be rather limited.
