2019 NACTOY finalists

Organisers of the 2019 North American Car of the Year, Truck of the Year and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards have revealed the three finalists in each category.

2019 North American Car of the Year
  • Genesis G70
  • Honda Insight
  • Volvo S60 / V60
Honda could take this title for a second year running, following the Accord’s victory in 2018. However, while the hybrid Insight is undoubtedly a strong contender, trying to predict the jurors’ favourite is fundamentally a waste of time.

  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500
  • GMC Sierra 1500
  • Ram 1500
No surprises here, as there were only three candidates to begin with.

2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year
  • Acura RDX
  • Hyundai Kona
  • Jaguar I-Pace
The outcome will be fascinating, because three different powertrain philosophies are represented on this list: internal combustion engine only (Acura), internal combustion engine or pure electric (Hyundai) and pure electric only (Jaguar).

A major upset was the Volvo XC40’s failure to advance to the last stage, especially as it was named 2018 European Car of the Year in March.

All of the winners are due to be declared at the North American International Auto Show on the 14th of January 2019.

Hyundai has confirmed specifications and pricing for its sporty i10 N Line. This new variant – which arrives at dealers later this month – benefits from some cosmetic tweaks, unique suspension components and a more powerful 1.0 litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine.

2012 Civic NGTC livery

Honda Racing’s all-new Civic NGTC race cars were first seen at a Brands Hatch test session last month. Then they were painted plain white, but now the colour scheme that will be worn in this year’s British Touring Car Championship has been revealed. As expected, the design is predominantly white with red and black stripes. A deal with Yuasa has also been confirmed, which will see the battery manufacturer becoming the renamed Honda Yuasa Racing Team’s title sponsor for the next three years. Moto Guzzi V7 Record kit

Inspired by the 1969 V7 Record that set several speed records for Moto Guzzi, the new Record kit has been designed to give current-generation V7 models a retro endurance racer look. Included is a lightweight fibreglass front fairing (which handily uses the existing headlight), plus a replacement single seat unit that features memory foam. The kit can be fitted to the V7 Café and V7 Racer without any modifications. It’s also suitable for the V7 Classic, V7 Special and V7 Stone, but a set of Moto Guzzi clip-on handlebars will be needed as well for those variants.
