2019 Renault Clio first view
Ahead of a début at the Geneva International Motor Show in March, Renault has released some details about the all-new fifth-generation Clio. This five-door supermini is the first model to be based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-B platform.
The previous Clio was among the smartest cars in its class, so the evolutionary exterior styling changes make a lot of sense. Conversely, the old cabin couldn’t be described as exemplary.
That’s why, according to Laurens van den Acker, Senior Vice President of Corporate Design, “The interior has undergone a true revolution, with a considerable improvement in perceived quality, greater sophistication and technology.”
Hence the use of soft-touch materials for the dashboard, centre console and door panels. Also, the seat bases are longer to provide better support, plus the backrests have been reshaped. Just as importantly, Renault claims that there’s more space inside, despite the 2019 Clio being 14 mm (0.6”) shorter and up to 30 mm (1.2”) lower than before.
Facing the driver is a ‘Smart Cockpit’ which forgoes a traditional analogue instrument cluster. Instead, information gets shown on a customisable 7” or 10” TFT display. The set-up’s other key element is a huge centrally-mounted 9.3” vertical multimedia screen.
Final specifications, prices and market launch dates for the 2019 Clio have yet to be confirmed.
