The Renault Master is being updated for 2020
Nearly nine years have passed since the current-generation Master was launched, so Renault has decided to give its large van another facelift.
Styling changes are concentrated at the front end. As well as an elevated bonnet line, the grille, bumper unit and headlights have all been redesigned.
Inside, a revised dashboard incorporates a 5” information display between the main instruments, a better-integrated central navigation screen and some chrome highlights. In addition, the seat fabric is more durable than before and the load space gains LED lighting.
A 2.3 litre diesel engine with twin turbochargers powers the latest Master. Although full details have yet to be revealed, outputs of up to 177 bhp (132 kW / 180 PS) with 400 Nm (295 lb/ft) of torque are promised. Customers will have a choice of either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Alternatively, the Master Z.E. features a 75 bhp (57 kW / 76 PS) R75 electric motor that allows a top speed of 62 mph (100 km/h). Real-world urban driving range is claimed to be 75 miles (120 kilometres) thanks to a 33 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, but that figure could drop to just 50 miles (80 kilometres) under arduous conditions. A full recharge takes six hours using a dedicated 32 amp / 7.4 kW wall box.
The 2020 Master is going to be available in numerous guises including panel van (four lengths and three heights), chassis cab, platform cab and minibus. Gross vehicle weights vary from 2.8 to 4.5 tonnes.
Deliveries are scheduled to start in September.
