Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 van first view
Following the unveiling of the updated T6.1 Multivan in February, Volkswagen has now revealed the panel van variant.
Apart from a redesigned front end, the latest Transporter looks very similar to its predecessor. However, the technical changes are much more significant.
For instance, a switch from hydraulic to electromechanical power steering has allowed features such as Lane Assist, Park Assist and Cross Wind Assist to be offered. Other new driver assistance devices include Rear Traffic Alert and Road Sign Display.
Practicality should be slightly better too. The T6.1 benefits from an under-seat loading function on the passenger side, a 230 volt socket in the cab, separate locking for the cargo area, LED interior lighting and Bluetooth connectivity.
Power comes from a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine that can be specified with an output of 88 bhp (66 kW / 90 PS), 108 bhp (81 kW / 110 PS), 148 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) or 196 bhp (146 kW / 199 PS). 4Motion all-wheel drive is an option for the 148 bhp and 196 bhp versions.
A launch date and pricing for the UK have yet to be confirmed.
