Aprilia SRV 850 revealed

Aprilia has confirmed that it’ll be unveiling the new SRV 850 maxi scooter at next month’s EICMA motorcycle show, which takes place in Milan.

Based on the GP800 from sister firm Gilera, the SRV 850 is powered by a 90-degree V-twin engine with four valves per cylinder.

However, perhaps in recognition of its sporty heritage, the Aprilia’s slightly larger capacity means it can boast 74.9 bhp (55.9 kW / 76.0 PS) and 76.5 Nm (56.4 lb/ft) of torque, compared to the GP800’s 73.8 bhp (55.1 kW / 75.0 PS) and 73.0 Nm (53.8 lb/ft). Seemingly inconsequential differences, but maybe it was important to someone that the SRV 850 should have higher outputs to maintain brand hierarchy?

The styling of the SRV 850 is certainly a big improvement on the rather bland appearance of the Gilera, and a new fairing, side panels and graphics result in a look that’s unmistakably Aprilia.

Whether that’s enough to attract buyers remains to be seen, though. Aprilia will undoubtedly be hoping that the SRV 850 is more successful than the slow-selling GP800, which isn’t even offered in the UK.
