BMW bike range updated

BMW’s motorcycle range is getting some updates for the 2013 model year.

The major change is that anti-lock brakes will become standard equipment on all models. This move forms part of the firm’s recently-announced ‘Safety 360°’ initiative, and it also pre-empts European Union legislation which is likely to be introduced in 2016.

Apart from that, there’s not too much to get excited about, as most of the other revisions are simply new colour schemes:

G Series
BMW G 650 GS (2013) Side
The G 650 GS will be available in Sunset Yellow, which replaces Orange Red.
F Series
BMW F 800 R With Dynamic Package (2013) Side
BMW revealed the new F 700 GS and F 800 GS a few days ago, but the F 800 R is also getting a few tweaks for 2013.

These focus on a couple of option packs that are designed to broaden the naked bike’s appeal.

The first is the Dynamic Package, which will cost €295 in Germany and comprises a pillion seat cover, an engine spoiler and LEDs in place of conventional bulbs for the indicators and rear light.

Alternatively, the €495 Touring Package includes a luggage rack, pannier holders, a centre stand, heated grips, an on-board computer and a power socket.

Out go the Alpine White / Black Satin and Magma Red / White Aluminium paint finishes, but in their place F 800 R buyers will be able to choose Racing Blue / Alpine White or Sapphire Black.

Interestingly, there’s no mention of the F 800 ST tourer, which maybe implies its disappearance from the price list?
R Series
BMW R 1200 R (2013) Side
Montego Blue and Magnesium Beige are added as colour choices for the R 1200 R, while Red Apple and Smoke Grey are deleted.

And that’s it for the boxer-engine bikes, although rumours abound that the R 1200 GS will be getting a liquid-cooled motor at some point in the near future. For now, though, there’s no official word on that particular development.
S Series
BMW S 1000 RR (2013) Front Side
The S 1000 RR received a host of upgrades for 2012, so nothing significant was expected for 2013. It’s no surprise then that the only change is the availability of Granite Grey paintwork in place of Bluefire.
K Series
BMW K 1300 R (2013) Side
The previously optional sports wheels now come as standard on the K 1300 R, and prospective owners will have a choice of either Racing Red / Sapphire Black or Sapphire Black / Black satin colour schemes.
BMW K 1300 S (2013) Side
For the K 1300 S sports bike, the sole difference is that Sapphire Black / Dark Graphite replaces Magma Red / Sapphire Black as a paintwork option.
BMW K 1600 GT (2013) Front Side
2013 versions of the K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL tourers are going to feature a digital speedometer in the instrument panel’s 5.7” colour screen, and additional LED headlights have been added to both models’ options lists.
BMW K 1600 GTL (2013) Side
Dark Graphite and Montego Blue are the two new colours that’ll be offered for the GT, although Vermillion Red is no longer available. Additional paintwork choices for the GTL are Damask Red and Dark Graphite, but the Royal Blue finish is withdrawn.
