Jaguar F-Type in Paris

Perhaps the most important unveiling at this year’s Paris Motor Show is going to be the F-Type, which Jaguar has now confirmed will be appearing in production form.

Although the two-seater made its public debut at June’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, on that occasion it was a prototype vehicle wearing a camouflage colour scheme.

For now, specification details are somewhat sketchy, but we do know that the F-Type will be built using an aluminium body shell.

Jaguar has also revealed that the engine choice is to comprise a new 3.0 litre V6 producing either 335 bhp (250 kW / 340 PS) or 375 bhp (280 kW / 380 PS), as well as a development of the firm’s existing 5.0 litre V8. All three options feature a supercharger and a stop-start system.

Drive to the rear wheels will be via an automatic eight-speed transmission, rather than a traditional manual gearbox. It remains to be seen whether that decision could put off some drivers.

Commenting on the imminent debut, Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director of Jaguar Cars, said: “The unveiling of the F-Type in Paris will be a truly significant day in Jaguar’s history as it will mark the company’s return to the sports car market, a market it originally helped to create.

“As its sporting forebears did in their era, the F-Type will break new ground by delivering stunning sports car performance while vividly demonstrating Jaguar’s cutting-edge engineering technologies and world-class design excellence. The next step in Jaguar’s sporting bloodline is about to become reality.”

The Paris Motor Show opens to the press on the 27th of September, with the public allowed in two days later.
