2013 Land Rover Defender

The changes that Land Rover is making to the Defender for 2013 could be described as both cosmetic and fairly minor. However, they do signal the firm’s recognition that its most rugged vehicle is increasingly being bought based on image as much as off-roading ability.

For example, customers will be able to select one of four new contrasting colours for the roof - Santorini Black, Orkney Grey, Firenze Red or Indus Silver - which should result in some lively paintwork combinations. Purists need not worry though, as the traditional Fuji White remains an alternative.

On the inside, more comfortable ‘Premium’ seats are available for the driver and front-seat passenger, and they come with part-leather upholstery. There’s also now the opportunity to upgrade the standard audio system to an Alpine-branded one that features a 150W subwoofer and improved speakers.

Apart from Barolo Black and Havana being added to the colour chart, that’s it for the updates. Technically everything remains the same, which is understandable given that the Defender got a new 2.2 litre engine and gearbox just last year.

The 2013 Land Rover Defender goes on sale this month, with prices in the UK starting from £22,350.
