BMW F 800 GT unveiled

BMW has given its F 800 ST mid-range sports touring bike some major updates for 2013, including more power, redesigned bodywork and a new ‘GT’ suffix.

The F 800 GT retains the practical belt drive and 798 cc parallel twin-cylinder engine of its predecessor, but now the output is up to 88 bhp (66 kW / 90 PS) - a small increase compared to the 83 bhp (63 kW / 85 PS) of before.

Visually, the most significant change is the fairing, which has been restyled to provide better wind and weather protection. For the rider, the focus has been on enhanced comfort and to that end the GT features higher, vibration-free aluminium handlebars with redesigned switches, repositioned footrests and a plusher seat.

Modifications to the chassis comprise retuned suspension and lighter wheels. As with the rest of the 2013 BMW motorcycle range, anti-lock brakes come as standard, while automatic stability control and electronic suspension adjustment are on the options list.

The F 800 GT’s touring abilities can be augmented by the revised hard luggage system and a handlebar-mounted satellite navigation unit, both of which are available as accessories.
