2014 Triumph Tiger 800XC Special Edition

Triumph has unveiled a Special Edition version of its Tiger 800XC adventure bike.

Compared to the standard model the changes are purely cosmetic, but they result in an eye-catching colour scheme. Black paintwork with red metallic flecks is complemented by a red frame, while a black finish for the pillion grab rails, handlebars and exhaust heat shields completes the transformation.

The Special Edition will be available from next spring, priced at £8,849 in the UK. That figure represents a premium of £150 versus the current cost of a regular Tiger 800XC.

Perodua Myvi editions

There are probably lots of people who wouldn’t have a clue what a Perodua is. So it’s unsurprising that the Malaysian manufacturer’s sole UK model, the Myvi, is a rare thing despite being one of the cheapest cars on the market. Perhaps to give it a little more profile, Perodua has announced two limited editions, the Myvi Jet and Myvi Sport Silver. Changes from the standard specification versions are mostly cosmetic. The Jet gets 14” alloy wheels, remote central locking, side mouldings and chrome door handles. As its name suggests, it’s only available in black and costs £7,499 with manual transmission. On the other hand, the Sport Silver is based on the existing Sport model and, yes, it’s painted silver. Priced at £7,999, it comes with 15” 10-spoke alloys, body kit, chrome door handles, side mouldings and carbon fibre trim for the interior. Bullet Classic goes green

The Royal Enfield Bullet Classic definitely has a certain charm about it. Now it’s available as a Battle Green version, which pays homage to the company’s long relationship with the Indian Army. The association dates back to 1949, when Royal Enfield first set up an operation in Chennai to build a military spec 350 cc Bullet. Despite its 1950s looks, the Bullet Classic is surprisingly modern. The entire range received a new 499 cc engine back in 2009, featuring fuel injection and a five-speed transmission. Fortunately for riders not familiar with the traditional Royal Enfield set up, this also saw the gear change move to the left side of the bike. The Euro 3 compliant single cylinder engine produces 27 bhp (20 kW / 28 PS) and, while it’s never going to make the bikes the fastest on the market, its near 80 mpg (3.5 l/100km) fuel consumption is impressive. Will the inaugural South Korean Grand Prix actually take place on 24 October? Construction of the Yeongam circuit, designed by Hermann Tilke, is still not yet finished. It should have had its FIA inspection by the end of July, as the regulations state that that should happen at least 90 days ahead of a venue’s first international event. That particular target has clearly been missed by some margin. Yeongam Circuit However, in order to help ensure the South Korean round remains on the 2010 Formula 1 calendar, the FIA has now decided to relax the rules by delaying its final inspection until 21 September. The organisers remain upbeat, saying the track is currently “90% complete”. Only 10% to go, then. As a sign of progress, a Red Bull F1 car is due to complete a lap this weekend, driven by Karun Chandhok. VW unveils electric Golf

Volkswagen has revealed the electric Golf blue-e-motion. Instead of an engine under the bonnet, there’s an electric motor that produces maximum power of 113 bhp (85 kW / 115 PS) and has a continuous output of 67 bhp (50 kW / 69 PS). Electricity for the motor is stored in a lithium-ion battery pack, which has an energy capacity of 26.5 kilowatt-hours. Volkswagen claim that that’s enough to give the blue-e-motion a range of around 90 miles (150 km). Performance is brisk, too. With 270 Nm of torque, 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration takes a respectable 11.8 seconds, while top speed is 83 mph (135 km/h). That’s despite having to lug around the batteries, which weigh a bulky 315 kg. They’re stuffed under the rear seats, in the transmission tunnel and into the boot floor, which reduces luggage capacity from 350 litres to 275 litres.
