Bentley enters the furniture business

The move by Bentley into the luxury furniture trade is genuinely baffling. There’s no disputing the quality of the pieces, which have been created in collaboration with Italian company Luxury Living Group, but who is going to buy this stuff?

To quote Bentley, “the collection is inspired by the renowned craftsmanship and exquisite materials that characterise the interiors of all Bentley models”. However, most of the items also feature some fairly unsubtle branding.

So, regardless of any initial novelty value that might have, any customer who decides later to trade-in their Bentley car for another marque should really swap their furniture too. Of course, that assumes they actually owned a Bentley in the first place…

Prospective purchasers will certainly be spoilt for choice. The extensive collection includes sofas, chairs, beds, sideboards and even onyx-surfaced coffee tables.

Prices have yet to be confirmed, but expect them to be a lot higher than Ikea’s.

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
