2014 Brammo Empulse and Empulse R
Electric motorcycle manufacturer Brammo has updated its Empulse and Empulse R models for 2014.
The most significant change is a weight loss of 4.5 kg (10 lbs), which is expected to benefit both agility and range. Other modifications include a redesigned LCD instrument panel, revised graphics and paint colours, new nickel-plated battery brackets, a switch to Continental SportAttack tyres and the fitment of a tapered aluminium handlebar.
Power still comes from a 54 bhp (40 kW / 54 PS) motor that develops 63 Nm (46 lb/ft) and sends its output via a six-speed transmission. To go with its upgraded fully-adjustable suspension, the ‘R’ version continues to enjoy a higher peak torque figure of 90 Nm (66 lb/ft).
The big news from a UK perspective is that Brammo will begin selling its bikes here sometime during 2014. Estimated prices for the Empulse and Empulse R are £12,998 and £14,999 respectively, so buyers are certainly going to be paying a premium for electric power. However, some of that extra outlay should be recouped through reduced fuel bills.
In the United States the 2014 Empulse costs $16,995 excluding sales tax, while the Empulse R is $18,995.
