2014 KTM 450 Rally Replica unveiled

A KTM has won the Dakar Rally’s motorcycle class thirteen consecutive times. Now privateers have the opportunity to emulate that success, as the Austrian firm has just introduced the 450 Rally Replica.

It’s a serious piece of kit that boasts many of the features found on the bike ridden to victory in this year’s Dakar by Marc Coma. For example, there are multiple fuel tanks which can be used selectively via a pump system to optimise weight distribution.

Illustrating the attention to detail, the carbon fibre ‘tower’ housing the instruments and navigation equipment has been made as slim as possible to ensure a good view of the front wheel and the terrain ahead. Power comes from a single-cylinder, fuel-injected, 450 cc engine that sits within a steel trellis frame.

Available in limited numbers, the 450 Rally Replica is priced at €24,000 plus VAT. KTM is also offering a competitors’ service and support package for an additional cost.

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
