2015 Subaru Legacy debuts in Chicago
Okay, the obvious thing to say about the 2015 Subaru Legacy saloon is that it bares only a faint resemblance to the striking Legacy Concept which appeared last November. The production version certainly isn’t ugly, but the styling could have been much more exciting.
Overtly bold design might not be a huge priority for Legacy buyers though, especially as the 2015 model comes with all-wheel drive, the Lineartronic continuously variable transmission and a choice of boxer engines all as standard.
Furthermore Subaru is claiming that the latest Legacy, which has just been unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show, boasts the most passenger space in its segment. Another potential plus point for the mid-size contender is improved refinement thanks to extra sound insulation and the use of an acoustic windscreen.
Offered in Standard, Premium and Limited trim levels, all can be specified with a 2.5 litre, four-cylinder boxer motor that develops 175 bhp (130 kW / 177 PS) and is expected to achieve a combined fuel economy figure of 30 mpg US (36.0 mpg UK / 7.8 l/100km).
Alternatively, the Limited variant is available with a 3.6 litre, six-cylinder boxer engine as well. It produces 256 bhp (190 kW / 259 PS) and 335 Nm (247 lb/ft) of torque while hitting a predicted 23 mpg US (27.6 mpg UK / 10.2 l/100km) on the combined cycle.
All grades feature Bluetooth connectivity, welcome lighting, a rear-view camera, ventilated disc brakes for all four wheels and LED rear light clusters.
The range-topping Limited additionally has HID headlights, heated seats front and rear, power-adjustable front seats, perforated leather upholstery and a twelve-speaker audio system. Also fitted is a rear radar that’s used for the lane change assist, blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert functions.
In the United States, sales of the 2015 Legacy are due to begin this summer.
