Performance-orientated Adam S revealed

The new sporty ‘S’ model will be a welcome addition to the Vauxhall / Opel Adam city car range.

Described as “close-to-production ”, the Adam S is powered by a turbocharged 1.4 litre Ecotec four-cylinder engine that’s joined to a six-speed manual transmission. Producing 148 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) with 220 Nm (162 lb/ft) of torque, it’ll propel the Adam to a top speed of 136 mph (220 km/h).

An obvious rival is going to be the popular Abarth 500. By comparison it has 133 bhp (99 kW / 135 PS) and 206 Nm (151 lb/ft), which is sufficient for a top speed of 127 mph (205 km/h).

Complementing the Adam’s power boost are disc brakes for all four 18” wheels, an upgraded suspension set-up and more direct steering.

Exact specifications have yet to be confirmed, but the prototype is equipped with a rear wing, extended side skirts and a larger front spoiler. Its interior features a 7” colour touchscreen, the IntelliLink connectivity system, electronic climate control, Recaro Performance front seats and part-leather upholstery.
