2015 Peugeot 508 unveiled

Peugeot is attempting to broaden the 508 range’s appeal by giving it a facelift, adding more equipment and improving the powertrains.

In Europe at least that’s going to be a tough task, as buyers here seem to prefer their D-segment saloons and estates to come from premium (and usually German) brands. It’s a different story in China, where 360,000 units of the 508 have found customers since sales began in 2011. Unsurprisingly then, Peugeot’s flagship will continue to be built there as well as in France.

The most disappointing aspect of the original 508’s styling was an unforgettable front end that featured an overly-fussy grille arrangement. Thankfully a redesign for the 2015 version has given it added presence and clarity, even if the gap below the bonnet’s leading edge still looks a bit odd.

On the inside, the dashboard’s central portion has been modified to accommodate a 7” touchscreen that can display Peugeot Connect Apps services. Also available for the first time are a head-up display, blind spot sensors and a reversing camera.

Better efficiency has been the main focus of the engine upgrades. One of the diesel highlights is a new 2.0 litre BlueHDi 150 unit that’s Euro 6-compliant and emits 105 g/km of carbon dioxide, so it should be an attractive proposition for company car drivers.

The 2015 Peugeot 508 is due to make its public debut at the Moscow and Chengdu Motor Shows in August. UK deliveries are then expected to begin in September.
