Harley-Davidson Project LiveWire first view

When petrol eventually runs out, or just becomes prohibitively expensive, Harley-Davidson is going to need something to replace its trademark V-twin engine. The just-revealed Project LiveWire electric motorcycle is the firm’s first step towards finding that alternative.

For now at least the bike isn’t being touted as a production model, but it is going to be used to gauge customer reaction to the concept. Many of those opinions are expected to come via the Project LiveWire Experience Tour which has been established to offer test rides. It’ll shortly begin visiting Harley-Davidson dealers across North America, before repeating the exercise in Europe next year.

No technical details have been released, so nothing is known yet about Project LiveWire’s range, recharging times or performance (although acceleration is claimed to be “tyre-shredding”). Presumably it’s going to be considerably lighter than any current Harley-Davidson to help minimise battery drain.
