Škoda Slavia concept spider unveiled
Following the release of some teaser sketches a few months ago, Škoda has revealed the finished Slavia concept. This two-door, two-seat roadster – which is based on the Scala compact hatchback – was designed and built by trainees at the Škoda Academy in Mladá Boleslav.
Inspired by the 1957 Škoda 1100 OHC, the Slavia is named after a bicycle brand established in 1896 by company founders Václav Laurin and Václav Klement.
The transformation from Scala to Slavia involved welding the rear doors shut, removing the roof and adding some under-body reinforcement. While the result has slightly awkward proportions, the looks are helped by a bespoke rear deck that incorporates twin aerodynamic cowls.
20” alloy wheels, a prominent boot-lid spoiler, revised bumpers and White Crystal Blue pearlescent paintwork are among the other notable styling elements.
Inside, Sparco race seats are covered with black leather, plus four-point harnesses are fitted. Many other components including the dashboard are regular Scala items.
Power comes from a 1.5 litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine with a modified exhaust. Performance should be sporty enough, as it sends 148 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.
