Lotus Exige LF1 limited edition launched

Having scored just eight points so far in 2014, the Lotus Formula 1 team is currently languishing in eighth place in the constructors’ championship. That hasn’t stopped the brand’s road car business from introducing the F1-inspired Exige LF1, though.

Distinguishing it from the regular Exige S are several cosmetic changes. Most obvious is a black, gold and red livery that’s complemented by special badges, gold-coloured wheels and red brake calipers. The theme continues inside where there’s black and gold part-leather upholstery plus some embroidered logos on the seatbacks and head restraints.

Also part of the LF1’s standard specification is the usually optional Race Pack. This includes upgraded brake discs, the Dynamic Performance Management system and a set of Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo tyres.

Power comes from an unaltered 3.5 litre supercharged V6 engine that produces 345 bhp (257 kW / 350 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb/ft) of torque. With that output and a weight of only 1,176 kg (2,592 lbs), the Exige can accelerate from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.0 seconds before going onto a top speed of 170 mph (274 km/h).

Production of the LF1 is being limited to 81 examples (the number of grand prix victories secured to date by Lotus) and each is going to have a unique carbon fibre dashboard plaque. As an added incentive, buyers will get to visit both the Lotus Cars and Lotus Formula 1 Team factories.

In the UK the Exige LF1 costs £62,900, while the Eurozone price is €65,500 (plus local taxes). Both amounts exclude on the road charges.
