Porsche 911 Carrera S Martini Racing Edition

Porsche hasn’t won the Le Mans 24 Hours race outright since the 911 GT1-98 was victorious in 1998. This year could see the new 919 Hybrid LMP1 repeating the feat though, so to mark the occasion a special 911 Carrera S has been launched.

Called the Martini Racing Edition, it comes with a choice of white or black paintwork and a distinctive livery inspired by the 917 and 935 Martini-sponsored racers of the 1970s. While the blue and red stripes work really well, the overall effect is somewhat spoiled by an oversize Martini bonnet logo.

Other unique features include a special dashboard badge and a pair of illuminated stainless steel doorsill kick plates. Also fitted are the Sport Chrono and Aerokit Cup packages (the latter consisting of an extended front spoiler lip and a fixed rear wing), a Bose audio system, electric sports seats and black leather upholstery.

With no power increase, the 911’s 3.8 litre six-cylinder engine continues to produce 394 bhp (294 kW / 400 PS). Nevertheless, performance isn’t lacking. Even the standard seven-speed manual gearbox allows for a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.5 seconds and a 188 mph (304 km/h) top speed.

Production of the 911 Carrera S Martini Racing Edition is being limited to 80 units, which will be offered in Europe, Japan, Latin America and China. Deliveries are due to begin later this month.

Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
