Track-inspired Porsche Cayman GT4 unveiled

Porsche has introduced the GT4, a more extreme version of its Cayman two-seat coupé which has been developed by the firm’s motorsport department.

A mid-mounted 3.8 litre flat-six engine provides 379 bhp (283 kW / 385 PS) with 420 Nm (309 lb/ft) of torque. Delivered via a six-speed manual gearbox - the only available transmission - that’s enough to accelerate the GT4 from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds. Top speed is 183 mph (295 km/h).

By comparison, the 3.4 litre Cayman GTS possesses 44 bhp (33 kW / 45 PS) less and it records 4.9 seconds and 177 mph (285 km/h) for those two performance benchmarks.

To complement the additional output, Porsche has given the GT4 an upgraded chassis set-up based on the 911 GT3’s. Both axles feature reinforced components, plus the PASM variable damping system is also part of the standard specification. Furthermore, with circuit use in mind, the ride height, toe angle, camber and anti-roll bar stiffness can all be adjusted.

An extended front spoiler, a prominent fixed rear wing and 20” wheels shod with semi-slick (but still road-legal) Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres help to differentiate the GT4. The interior features extra-supportive sports seats that come covered in a mix of leather and Alcantara.

In the UK the Cayman GT4 has a starting price of £64,451, while in Germany it costs from €85,779. Deliveries are scheduled to commence at the end of March.
