Volkswagen introduces the Amarok Atacama

Another Amarok special edition has been launched. This latest one is called Atacama and, following a familiar formula, it gains plenty of extra specification.

The interior features leather upholstery, along with a touchscreen-based satellite navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel.

Unique bodywork decals, bi-xenon headlights and a set of 19” 'Cantera' alloy wheels distinguish the new arrival. Also fitted are black styling bars and a 'Durabed' protective coating for the cargo area.

Power is provided by a 177 bhp (132 kW / 180 PS) 2.0 litre BiTDI turbo diesel engine. Buyers can order either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission, both of which come with 4Motion four-wheel drive.

Available now in a choice of Deep Black, Horizon Blue or Candy White paint colours, the Amarok Atacama costs up to £2,436 more than the existing Highline version. Despite that substantial premium, Volkswagen is expecting to sell around 500 examples in the UK.

Suzuki is giving its Burgman 650 maxi-scooter a comprehensive update for 2013. Ford launches Fiesta Metal

The hot ST should hopefully be arriving in showrooms soon but, until that happens, the quickest Fiesta available will be the just-announced Metal special edition. Based on the existing three-door Zetec S, it comes complete with Ford’s Tuning Pack that lifts the 1.6 litre Duratec engine’s power by 13 bhp (8 kW / 14 PS) to 132 bhp (96 kW / 134 PS). Although top speed is virtually unchanged at 121 mph (195 km/h), the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time is slashed from 9.9 to 8.7 seconds. To go with the extra performance, the looks have been spruced up too. There are 17” black alloy wheels, twin chrome exhausts and a silver finish at the front for the aerofoil, grille surround and fog light bezels.
