Mazda MX-5 Speedster and Spyder concepts

For this year's SEMA show in Las Vegas, Mazda has created a couple of lightweight concepts based on the 2016 MX-5 Miata.

The first, named the MX-5 Speedster, is distinguished by aerodynamic cowls behind twin rollover bars and a small deflector instead of a windscreen.

Chassis upgrades include ventilated brake discs with four-piston Brembo calipers at the front, adjustable coilover suspension and 16” Rays 57 Extreme Gram Lights wheels shod with Kumho Ecsta V710 tyres. However, apart from a centrally-mounted Racing Beat exhaust, the 2.0 litre engine seems to have been left standard.

Inside, the MX-5 Speedster boasts unique Mu-Len Delta seats that are made from carbon fibre and upholstered in Alcantara.

Mazda says the MX-5 Spyder is “a sophisticated interpretation of the classic vintage roadster”. Accordingly, its most remarkable feature is a 'bikini top' fabric roof by American Sunroof Corporation, which is complemented by a Spinneybeck Prima leather interior.
