2021 Kia Sorento PHEV revealed
Initially, the all-new Sorento mid-size SUV is going to be launched with a choice of either diesel or self-charging (i.e. non-plug-in) hybrid powertrains. Anybody considering placing an order might want to wait though, because Kia has just announced that a plug-in hybrid version is due to arrive at European dealers early next year.
The Sorento PHEV combines a 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine, an electric motor, a six-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive and an under-floor 13.8 kWh battery pack. Total system output is rated at 261 bhp (195 kW / 265 PS), with up to 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque.
Unfortunately, performance figures, efficiency data, pure-electric range and battery recharging times haven’t been officially homologated, so they’re unknown for the time being.
Similarly, Kia has yet to confirm prices for the Sorento PHEV which, like the rest of the range, will be available with a choice of five- or seven-seat layouts.
