Aston Martin’s Red Bull specials are a bit naff

Limited editions that aren’t any more appealing than the cars on which they’re based are fundamentally pointless. Unfortunately, the V8 Vantage S and V12 Vantage S Red Bull Racing Editions are cases in point.

Intended to commemorate the ‘Innovation Partnership’ between Aston Martin and the Formula One team, both versions have been given the same cosmetic changes.

These start with a choice of Mariana Blue, satin Mariana Blue or gloss Tungsten Silver paintwork. Some garish contrast is then provided by coloured in-fills on the side strakes and front grille which, like the front splitter and rear diffuser, are made from carbon fibre.

Inside, Red Bull Racing logos are boldly embroidered into the head restraints, plus some extra carbon fibre trim is fitted. Either Daniel Ricciardo’s or Max Verstappen’s signature on the doorsill and final inspection plaques completes the package.

On the face of it, the Red Bull Racing Editions are only going to appeal to diehard race fans. For anybody else thinking about buying a Vantage S, the standard models will still suffice.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2017. Prices haven’t been announced yet, though.
