Refreshed 2017 Škoda Rapid unveiled

A restyled front bumper, new wheel designs and tinted taillight clusters identify the updated Škoda Rapid and Rapid Spaceback. However, the main change is less visible, because it concerns the engine line-up.

The 1.2 litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit has been replaced by a lighter and more efficient 1.0 litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged motor. A choice of 94 bhp (70 kW / 95 PS) or 109 bhp (81 kW / 110 PS) outputs will be offered:

They join the 123 bhp (92 kW / 125 PS) 1.4 litre petrol, the 89 bhp (66 kW / 90 PS) 1.4 litre diesel and the 114 bhp (85 kW / 116 PS) 1.6 litre diesel, all of which remain available.

There are some cabin alterations, too. The instruments, door cards and dashboard air vents have all been spruced up, plus Škoda Connect now appears on the options list.

This system comprises CareConnect emergency and breakdown calling (via an integrated SIM card), remote access to vehicle data through a dedicated app, a WLAN hotspot and Infotainment Online traffic and driving information.

Deliveries of the 2017 Rapid and Rapid Spaceback are expected to start soon after their debuts at the Geneva Motor Show next month. However, prices haven’t been published yet.

The Alfa Romeo MiTo supermini is now available with the innovative two-cylinder TwinAir petrol engine. Although its capacity is only 875 cc, a turbocharger and the MultiAir electro-hydraulic valve control system mean it produces a respectable 83 bhp (62 kW / 85 PS) and 145 Nm (103 lb/ft) of torque. Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
