Two Mercedes-Benz X-Class camping concepts
For this month’s CMT show in Stuttgart, Mercedes-Benz has created a couple of concepts based on its new X-Class pick-up.
The first features a demountable camper from established company Tischer.
A side entrance door leads into the habitation space, where there’s a double bed in the over-cab alcove, as well as dinette seating that can be converted into a second bed. The kitchen area has a three-burner gas hob, while a small wash room is equipped with a shower, a fold-up basin and a swivelling toilet.
The second vehicle, developed in collaboration with VanEssa Mobilcamping, is much more unusual.
This X-Class has been fitted with a pair of pull-out units accessible via the tailgate. Together, they provide full kitchen facilities plus storage for provisions and cooking gear. Weather protection comes courtesy of a water-resistant teak cover, which can be supported at 45 degrees by pneumatic struts. However, sleeping accommodation is obviously absent, so a suggested solution for overnighting is a roof tent.
Despite being termed concepts, both products look like they’re ready for customers. Perhaps their respective manufacturers are waiting to gauge public reaction before committing to retail them?
