The top ten car brands as rated by BrandZ 2018
WPP and Kantar Millward Brown have published their latest annual BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands study. As might be expected, technology companies Google and Apple dominate the overall results once again.
In terms of car brands, the segment’s combined value rose by 7% due to higher SUV sales and the growing strength of luxury marques. However, the report goes on to warn that the industry could soon be adversely affected by slowing demand and changing attitudes to vehicle ownership.
Toyota still occupies its now customary first place, ahead of Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Tesla meanwhile recorded the highest year-on-year percentage value increase, despite some well-documented Model 3 production issues.
A notable newcomer to the list is Maruti Suzuki. The Indian firm was particularly acknowledged for establishing ‘Nexa’, a network of premium dealers that offers more aspirational products to the country’s burgeoning middle class.
Repercussions from the ‘dieselgate’ emissions scandal continue. Nevertheless, Volkswagen re-entered the top ten, primarily because of additional retail volumes in key markets and a refreshed model line-up.
Ford, Honda, Nissan and Audi fill this year’s remaining slots.
